Request account deletion
You can ask us to delete your Mailbox account and its associated data at any time — you do not need to install or reinstall the app to do this.
Email us to delete my accountOr send an email yourself to support@yassuh.com with the subject “Delete my Mailbox account” and include:
- the mobile number registered on the account, in international format (for example, +1876…)
- the full name on the account
To protect your account from being deleted by someone else, we will confirm that the request came from you — for example by verifying that you control the registered mobile number or email address — before we act on it.
Delete your account inside the app
If you still have the app installed, you can delete your account yourself:
- Open Mailbox and sign in.
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm when prompted. Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted, the following are erased or irreversibly anonymized so they can no longer be linked back to you:
- Your name, mobile number and email address
- Your Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), if you provided one for verification
- Your parish, your saved parish location and your last known GPS position
- Your password
- Your device push-notification tokens — no further notifications can be sent to your devices
- Your channel subscriptions and any group memberships
- The one-time passcode records tied to your mobile number
- All sign-in sessions and refresh tokens — you are signed out on every device immediately
What we keep, why, and for how long
A small amount of information is retained after deletion. None of it identifies you once your account details have been anonymized.
- Append-only audit records (for example, that an account was created and later deleted, and administrative actions taken on the platform) — kept for security, fraud prevention and legal accountability for up to 7 years. These records reference an internal identifier that is no longer linked to your name, number or TRN.
- Message delivery and acknowledgement records — retained in de-identified form so we can report aggregate delivery statistics to the organizations that send alerts. The link to your identity is removed.
- System backups — deleted data can remain in routine database backups until those backups are rotated out of storage.
- Anything we are required to keep by Jamaican law.
How long it takes
Deleting your account from inside the app takes effect immediately.
For requests sent by email, we aim to acknowledge you within 5 business days and to complete the deletion within 30 days of verifying that the request came from you.
Delete some data without closing your account
If you do not want to lose your account, you can remove specific data instead:
- Location data — turn off Offline emergency alerts in the Profile tab to stop the app watching your area in the background. To stop location collection altogether, turn off location permission for Mailbox in your device settings. To have the position we already hold erased, email us using the address above.
- Subscriptions — unsubscribe from any organization or channel in the app.
- Anything else — email support@yassuh.com and tell us what you would like removed.
About Mailbox
Mailbox is a one-way messaging app published by Yassuh. Verified organizations in Jamaica — government agencies, emergency services, utilities, banks and news providers — send messages and emergency alerts to citizens through it. It is strictly one-way: you receive messages and cannot reply to senders through the app.
